Olive's Cottage was extensively renovated in early 2004. The renovations took advantage of the light and airiness of the living area, and the wonderful views of the river, and of the vineyards and hills beyond. The result is a comfortable and cosy holiday house for the discerning and appreciative traveller. The cottage is set in extensive, recently landscaped, gardens. You, and your party, have sole occupancy of the property.
The facilities are summarised in groups below. Click on the photos above or the Gallery links below for photo summaries.
- Lounge, Kitchen, Dining Room
The cottage has a combined lounge, kitchen and dining area. This "front of house" area is comfortable and cosy. The colour scheme was inspired by the yellow-toned dining room in Monet's house in France, with aubergine as a contrasting colour. This area has reverse cycle heating/cooling.
The lounge has a CD, DVD and radio system, as well as TV. There is no wood fire, but there is a very effective artificial "fire" which prompts rave reviews from visitors. See Gallery.
The kitchen is fitted with modern appliances (including microwave oven, dishwasher, and electric stove top and oven). It is also generously fitted out with crockery, glassware and cooking equipment. It is designed to be a functional kitchen. Food lovers and gourmets should find it more than adequate. The kitchen has views to die for.
The dining room, off the kitchen and lounge, also has lovely views, and leads onto the main deck. See Gallery.
- Bedrooms, Bathroom and Sitting Room
The "back of house" is comfortable, but simple and non-extravagant. There are two bedrooms, the main bedroom with queen size bed, the second with a standard double bed. Both bedrooms are lovely in the early morning sun. Here you will also find a separate sitting room, with comfortable chairs and table for morning coffee, for reading the newspaper or working on the laptop, or just to sit and enjoy the great views. It also has a sofa bed that folds out into a comfortable, standard double bed. There is one bathroom for the cottage, with shower, toilet and vanity facilities. The bathroom also includes a front-load washer-dryer. Each room has its own mounted electric heating. See Gallery
.
- Decking
There are two decks, both with clear overheard cover. The main deck, facing the river, is large and is ideal for a quiet coffee or flute of sparkling or romantic breakfast or dinner. It has extensive outdoor furniture, and an electric barbecue.
See Gallery.
- Barbecue Pit, Table and Lawns
The property itself is about one acre, or 0.4 of a hectare, in size. It stretches from the road, down to the river.
The top half of the block, down to the top of the bank, has recently been formally landscaped, with garden beds, lawns and barbecue pit. There is a herb garden on the kitchen side of the top garden, and you will also find a plum tree and newly planted bay, lemon, lime, cherry and quince trees.
The bottom half of the block drops down to natural bushland and river flats, and to a stand of tea-trees at the river's edge. The eucalypts on the bank below the barbecue pit can be floodlit at night.
The dominant feature of the garden is the barbecue pit carved into the slope, with its wood-fired grill and magnificent Garry Lethborg table setting: as much an art work as it is functional furniture. See Gallery.
